The film tells us about the generation of the early seventies who took to drugs. But the film produced in tardy eighties tells the story of the life of that generation of the seventies when America was almost obsessed with anti drug sentiment bordering on the verge of hysteria. The late eighties were the times of the winners. Only they counted. But this film is telling us about the losers belonging to the generation just earlier, who got lost in drugs and unreal hallucinatory lives. The film tries to understand that generation, while showing how comically meaningless and desperate the life of the addicts were. The border between medicine and drug is wafer thin. The change of meaning is only in how the human beingnesss relate to it. Like drug abuse t present is abuse of medicines this is an issue raised by the traditional medical practitioners like the Ayurvedic doctors against Allopathic practices. To cite Angus BancroftA drug is a meaning used in a drug-like way, a medicine is the substance applied to cure, and a poison the substance used to kill. The end point is that any object or relationship to an object is only formed by the way humans relate to it. mind-bending substances become drug only when they take on socially active characteristics, which incorporate human agency. (Drug Intoxication & Society, PP.176)PERSONEL BUT IMPASSIONATE The film is based on the unpublished novel by James Fogle. This writer is one who had served imprisonment for drug abuse crimes. Thus the account of the life of the drug addict depicted here is very intimate and personal. It is something like an insider story. But the positive feature of the films handling of the issue is that it is not romanticizing drug addiction, in spite of it being an insider narrative. At the same

This core that the rhymes are masculine and strict, meaning that the speaker is in a dilemma to choose a raceway that is rarely used by people. The poem the road not taken has received widespread recognition based on which it reflects dilemma when an individual has to make a choice in life. Based on the simple words used in The Road Not Taken the author employs (I shall be telling this with a sigh / I took the wholeness little travelled by), scholars stipulate that the poem is easy to memorize without the reader really understanding it. In the case of the poem, the persona stipulates the passing hither/ Had won them really about the same. Ideally, the two roads that morning/ In leaves no step had trodden black. This means that in the case of the two roads, one of them is less travelled. As such, it is inappropriate to ignore the after-effect s prevalent based on the way in which they are portrayed in the poem, since the persona is unsure on the path in which he should follow. In this case, the speaker stipulates that I took the less travelled by / And that has made all the difference. The major attraction evident in the poem is the archetypal dilemma, meaning that the narrator cannot make the right decision on the path to follow. Blackface - Essay ExampleThey wore woolly wigs on their heads, gloves for their hands and painted their lips in exaggeration. They also made wont of either tail coats or ragged clothes to highlight their totally transformed looks. Much later on, actual black artists took to the same art.Blackface minstrelsy played a very important and significant role in promoting racism worldwide through their racist perceptions and attitudes towards it. The greatest impact of Blackface on the community was the precedent it open in the introduction of African American culture to an international audience, albeit through a distorted lens. (Lott 1993, Watkins 1999) From a National level point of view, minstrelsy was the most customary form of art which was used to express themselves. There are multiple differences of opinions between scholars as to the authenticity leading to the social and cultural creations related to the Blackface practice. In this capacity, historian Robert Toll develops a pers pective that reflects a relative ambivalence toward the institution of slavery in the North prior to the Civil War. The historian Eric Lott complicates the have sex further by suggesting that Blackface minstrelsy were motivated by both love and theft of black culture.According to popular culture the North was regarded as being emancipationist and a champion of social justice during the Civil War but contrary to this fact as demonstrated through the popularity of Blackface minstrel shows, there was wakeful evidence of the element of inferiority associated with individuals of African descent. What the Blackface minstrelsy shows reflected was the perceived unsophisticated nature of the entire African race compared to their European counterparts the practice emphasized blacks falling little of white standards (67).Blackface minstrelsy made extensive use of malapropisms and puns and conducted their musical concerts while sitting in a wide

Car robber - Essay ExampleThe car robbers have also turned to highly sophisticated equipments in perpetrating the crime. Financed by members of the family who either buy robbed cars or provide the necessary equipments for the crime, these professional car robbers even develop provisions to smuggle the cars to other countries, especially to East European and African nations, through various shipping companies.Because of the rise in the number of car robberies, car factories are now focused on equipping cars with aegis machines such as security alarm systems and identification mechanisms. The latter verifies the owner and/or user of the car as the engine starts. Despite these innovations, car thieves continually show adeptness in highly mechanized and electronic knowledge thus beating these security gadgets. In addition, some car robberies occur receivable to faulty car security systems and the carelessness and negligence of the car owner. All over the world, car robbery has increase d in the recent decade because of the hold for cars as a means of transportation. The rising demand is due to the important role that cars perform in the world. Globally, they are considered the first means of transport. Ironically, this demand for cars is some other reason for the increase in car theft. Second-hand Japanese- or American-made cars known for their performance are re-built and put out in the market in developing countries. overdue to the inexpensiveness and the popularity of such second-hand cars, this kind of car theft has not only provided another source of income for car thieves but also another motive for stealing cars. The Abu Dhabi Emirate is sixth of the former Trucial States of the Persian Gulf that was merged in 1971 to form what is now known as the United Arab Emirates or UAE. Reflective Statement Essay Example for Free

Reflective Statement EssayFor this module, we atomic number 18 required to do an assignment with regards of SME company. The purpose of writing the makeup is to analyze the key internal issues the management is likely to face when strategizing their marketing formula. Besides, we are also required to provide a practical recommendation for the company. For this project, the relegate was divided into 3 groups and each group consists of 3 members. My group members are Miss Tai Geok Yeong and Miss Sharanya.Discussions among group members were held 4 times, on the 29th October, second November, 4th November and 6th November, respectively. Besides of our normal eeting in college, the discussions also were held through the MSN chat and email. Each of our group members was allocated with task and although conflicts arise during the discussion, we still managed to solve the problem. In my opinion, conflict in a group is not necessarily bad and we use several of techniques in order to resolve conflicts like compromising and exercises sprain delegation.Throughout completing the task CareKoolTint Sdn Bhd, I have gained lots of new information about SME and the company. In order to get more facts about the company, we held an query with one of their sales representatives on 2nd November 2009. From the 1 hour interview, we managed to gather the information needed for this project, which for example are, their current marketing strategies and the companys internal issues. One classical lesson I learnt from the interview is that, even though small firms is not properly structured, it does not mean that SMEs do not engage in marketing. It is only that, they are doing marketing according to their own terms and not according to a theoretical framework. Other than interviewing the sales representatives, my group and I also did a look for based from their websites and also by reading books. It is important so that e will have a broader view on the business environment a nd ease us to write the task more accurately. In order to complete the task, I read Marketing and Entrepreneurship in SMEs, Principles of Marketing by Philip Kotler and Fundamentals of guidance to have a better understanding about SME and its management as well as several websites related to the topic which for example SME Info Portal. This total process, I believe has improved both my knowledge and skills. I learnt how to work with others as a team, it taught me how to compromise as I need to be dedicate in accepting other people ideas or opinion and also in handling conflicts. In addition to that, basically, I am more knowing on this topic. From the research, I discovered various type of SME in Malaysia which can classified under 3 category that are Primary Agriculture, Manufacturing (including Agro-Based) MRS, Services firmament (including CT) . Furthermore, I am also more aware on characteristics needed to be an entrepreneur, and one essential trait they must have is to be a risk taker. This is important as SME business environment is very uncertain and whenever they make a wrong decision, it may affect their business as a whole.

Google in China Essay Example for Free

Google in mainland China EssayGoogle is the fastest receiveing Internet search engine company. Googles mission is to deck out the worlds information and make it universally accessible and useful.(International Business Competing in the Global marketplace, pg 148-149) They lead a mantra of Dont be Evil. Google started this mantra to be the main message to show consumers they would non compromise the integrity of its search results. This case reviews the situation under which Google was required to censor its content and chose to launch its bran-new search engine site. The case explains the role of the Chinese g overnment and its regulations in the Internet market which had a negative effect on Googles operations in China. In 2000, Google started a Chinese language service. This service was operated from the United States. Chinese authorities blocked the site in 2002 because China censors information to their citizens. This block surprise Googles managers. This was a challenge the managers did not plan on. If they done their research of the Chinese Government and culture prior to launching the Chinese language service, they would have known the block would be inevitable and they could have tailored their service to the Chinese regulations, culture, and laws. Google knew China was an advantageous business and they would need to adapt their service in order for it to be acceptable and profitable. Google also had to move the Chinese operations to China. Operating from the United States caused slow connection speed and hinder their operation and growth. This was a good move because it enabled Google to employee Chinese citizens who would be able to help understand and adapt to the Chinese laws, regulations, and censorship demands. Google managers made a mistake by not researching their target market. However, they acted quickly in learning and correcting this mistake.Google still offered Chinese citizens a better search engine, but it was not without censors hip. The Google search engine offers more results than its competitors, Yahoo, Microsofts MSN, and Chinas own company, Baidu. Google states Chinese consumers will get more information on their site, though not quite all of it. (International Business Competing in the Global marketplace, pg 148-149) In 2006, Google had 30 percent share of Chinas internet search engines. Baidu had 40 percent. This left another 30 percent burst between Yahoo and Microsofts MSN search engines. These percentages are good, especially when one considers Yahoo and Microsoft had entered the Chinese search engine market prior to Google.Baidu has several advantages over Google that are mostly associated with it being a Chinese based company, the search engine has competence in pinpointing queries in the Chinese language (Yin Yulin, 2010, p. 4). Government dealing with China are precarious for businesses effectiveness. Google did not have a clear understanding of what they would be involved in. China has bec ome more supported and self-confident due to its increasing economic significance. They are more reluctant to be pressed by Western governments or companies into changing its long term regulations and censorship. Because of this aspect, China does not yet comprehend global strategies and the importance of global public relations. This causes them to be more rigid in their international business dealings. All-in-all, Google has been able to grow successfully in the Chinese search engine market and maintain the number two spot (behind Baidu) in China despite their lack of other(a) research on the Chinese culture, governmental regulations, and laws.ReferencesInternational Business. Duke of Edinburg Adventurous Journey Report Essay Example for Free

Duke of Edinburg Adventurous Journey Report EssayThe Duke of Edinburg Adventurous Journey Report It all started on the unruffled morning of July 31. After a delay of about 2 hrs, we finally got on the Volvo AC bus after having our modest breakfast in OIS. I felt great the morning fresh air always suited me. The bus passed effortlessly through the jam less capital of Bangladesh streets. Once it got to Savar, I began to notice natural beauty of the highest quality. There were all kinds of plants and shrubs and delicately colored flowers. The green carpeted Savar Golf Course was the main attraction of our journey from Dhaka to Aricha. After an hours delay at the Aricha ferry ghat, it took us another hour to cross the river. The other half of our journey from ferry ghat to Khulna was torturous. Amid the sweltering heat of the shrouded sun, the AC of the AC bus kept breaking down and we were not in a position to actually appreciate the natural roadside beauty. Everyone was sweating a nd imprecation inside the bus. And no one had the heart of taking pictures or tuning to a song.So the first emotion upon stepping out of the bus was one of residuum no one would want to repeat a bus journey like that We reached the quarter where we would be saying for the better part of the next 2 days. Every one of us felt disappointed on seeing the small building surrounded by the wild. Compared to BARD, this place was like a jungle. We played out an hour for settling in our room and washing ourselves up. Then we took a 20 minute walk and our journey for the day was put to an end. The next day was just of adventures. We took a 2 hr walk before breakfast. The highlight of our adventurous journey came right after that. We took a bus to Bagerhat to visit the Sathgombhuj Mosque. The escape in that location told us some part of the history of the mosque and also gave us an insight on where the name of the mosque derived from. After a brief photo-session we went to Khan Jahan Ali Ma zar there we sat near the edge of the lake and took a little snack break of singara and Frutica. Some half an hour later another bus trip took us to Chadmahal. The place is a gem hidden deep in the heart of Bagerhat. It looked like a great place for family hangout. Apart from some(prenominal)thing else there is a zoo, an dumfounding 3-storey marble-studded building and an underwater entrance to the building. After our short visit to Chandmahal, we took our survey of the local people, as instructed and then went back to our resting place. After a day full of work, it was a bliss to me to get a quick shower and nap before the grand camp fire. Although most of the awardees were reluctant, the campfire went fine. I was honored to be give the chance to light the fire. From there on, we sang and Akter sir danced and overall the camp-fire was a success. After that we went to sleep. The next day, everyone woke up early and prepared to leave. We loaded vans with our luggage and hurried to th e bowed stringed instrument station. No sooner had we got on the train, it gave its final whistle and started to move. The train journey was itself an adventure with one of the bogies going off-track soon after we passed a small station. each in all the adventurous journey was a memorable one and a few glitches along the way will not make it any less enjoyable.

Desorption Ionization Methods Essay

Desorption Ionization Methods EssayPharmaceutical scienceDesorption ionization methods owning a powerful might in pharmaceutical field in which the ionization sources provided by the respective mass spectrometers was able to minimize the damage causing any variations in molecular structures of the samples (Monagas, Quintanilla-Lpez, Gmez-Cordovs, Bartolom, Lebrn-Aguilar, 2010). The prevention muckle be done by using ideal matrix mixed with the analytes, owning properties of strong absorption, good mixing and having low desiccation pressure. With these properties the mass spectrometer ar able more accurate in determine the intact molecular m/z value of the analytes.MALDI-TOF MS grand numbers of researchers was account a golds that associate with various benefits in health known as proanthocyanidins , a polyphenols compounds which having properties of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases prevention (Aron Kennedy, 2008). Several authors were characterized proanthocyni dins in both plants and non-plants nutriments by the application of MALDI-TOF MS in term different personal manner of celebrateion and mass species. Two different mode of sensing, reflectron mode and linear mode, check been well applied in proanthocynidins analysis. By using MALDI-TOF MS applying on proanthocynidins analysis owning a great advantages in minimize the difficulty in run across the spectra in which it used single-charged molecular ions for detection that can eliminate those impurities peak that generate by new(prenominal) sources (Monagas, Quintanilla-Lpez, Gmez-Cordovs, Bartolom, Lebrn-Aguilar, 2010).The proanthocynidins are essential in food plants and non-food plants sample. This review was provides three example for both plants that are available in journal article. For the food plants, apple juice procyanidins was detected by MALDI-TOF MS in linear mode by both M+Na+ and M+K+ had been well studies by Shoji, et al. (2006). The authors were concluded that the apple juice procyanidins was exit as B-type procyanidins and the sight mass of the species reported as M+K+ are higher than M+Na+. Other foods plant, Grape seeds, was reported by Krueger, et al. (2000) as M+Na+ in both reflectron and linear mode. The type of proanthocyanidin was being detected are B-type procyanidins and galloylated (esterified form) in various range of degree of polymerization (DP). It was found that the linear mode can be detected up to DP 11 while reflectron mode only can detect up to DP 9. Besides, Krueger, et al. in 2003 was reported another foods plant, Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench), as M+Cs+ in the reflectron mode was able to detect A- and B-type procyanidins and prodelphinidins. Due to the complexity of this food plant, the authors enable the detection up to DP9 containing up to 5 A-type linkages and confirming the abundance of the linkages in Sorghum (Krueger, Vestling, Reed, 2003).On the other hand, non-food plants proanthocynidins can also appl ied by MALDI-TOF MS. However, in the application of non-food plants, unlike application in food plants, Hedqvist, et al. (2000) was reported the Lotus corniculatus (var. Fargus) have presented B-type procyanidins and prodelphinidins by the application in both reflectron and linear mode were detected as M+Na+. By establishing reflectron mode, B-type procynanidins and prodelphinidins in acetylated form in bark of genus Pinus radiata were reported by Ku and Mun (2007). Besides, profisetinidins and prorobinetinidins in heartwood of Quebracho (Schinopsis balansae) were reported by Vivas, et al. (2004)FAB-MSThe application of FAB-MS in pharmaceuticals sector was baring an importance role in analyzing those nonvolatile compounds in yields abundant ions and detailed fragmentation data (Bartner, et al., 1997). Everninomicin-6 (EV-6) was reported as an oligosaccharide antibiotic by Bartner, et al. (1997). The authors were using previous studies, Everninomicin-D (EV-D), by comparing their fragmentation m/z value in order to well try out the fragmentation. Besides, the paper also opera ted by using various types of matrices in order to illustrated more structurally informative fragment ions such as glycerol, thioglycerol, glycerol/thioglycerol, 3-nitro-benzyl alcohol (3NBA), and 3NBA+NaCl.In the studies, the FAB spectra were yields a very weak protonated and a relatively low-abundance sodiated molecular ions at m/z 1335 and 1357 respectively. The authors were emphasize that the matrix, NaCl doped 3NBA was producing the best firmness of purpose among the matrices that they were used. The spectra were able to shown a clearer enhancement of the sodiated molecular ion at m/z 1357 and the authors also able to determine several series of the molecular fragmentation. This make the spectra more essential in define the structurally informative ion constituent. However, negative-ion FAB-MS had been investigated by the authors for the structural analysis perform by using DMSO-3NBA matrix and produced abundant molecular ion at m/z 1333 and a series of cleavage of ions peak. In order further improve the detection limit, Chen, et al. (2011) research was using C60 cluster ion sources. The studies were done by the event-by-event bombardment/detection mode and providing benefits which allowed the detector very narrow length (10nm) molecules. Chen, et al. (2011) were reported that this mode was increased the sensitivity of the detection toward the closer distances between nanoparticle probe and amino sharp sites of an antibody. It was reported that the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was modified in which the antiCD4 cooperate to the AuNPs and immobilized on the cell for analyze. It was reported that the negative ions that cleavage by the molecules in the range of m/z 30 to 120 were indicating the present of the antibodies on the cell. Besides, m/z 197 and m/z 223 corresponding to Au and AuCN respectively, were shown the importance of the peak which indicating the immobilization was successful. On the other hand, the ions source of C60 caused the impact on the lipid membrane region where the fragmentation palmitate (C16H31O2) and oletate (C18H33O2) at m/z 255 and 283 respectively had occurred.Table 3 The co-emitted secondary ions and observed mass of AuNPs-antiCD4 labeled cell surface analyzed with C60 ToF-SIMSDetected speciesCo-emitted secondary ionsObserved massAuNPs-antiCD4 conjugatesAuAuCN197223Cell lipid membraneC16H31O2C18H33O2255283
